Workshop Descriptions
May 1st Collage and Scrapbook Social: Come together to rip, cut, arrange, glue and tape various images, texts, and shapes to create your own artworks. Working in your sketchbook, scrapbook or on separate paper, you will be encouraged and guided on how to arrange various paper pieces to tell a story or evoke a feeling.
*Sharp tools will be kept on a high shelf to keep out of little hands
*Collage materials will be provided, participants could also bring their own if they'd like
May 15th Zine and Sketchbook Extravaganza: Bring your sketchbook and/or use paper & blank zine books to experiment with new creative techniques. Learn how to create and illustrate a simple story in zine format! Zines are small simply illustrated booklets that use about 5-7 pages to illustrate a thought, situation, or story.
Mixed media supplies such as pens, markers, ink, pastels, and color pencils will be available for us to be bold and brave together as we adorn more pages of our sketchbooks and try out zine-making. Become inspired by one another and show off our creations and discoveries together.
*Sharp tools will be kept on a high shelf to keep out of little hands
*Mixed Media materials will be provided, participants can bring their own too and are encouraged to bring a sketchbook
May 29th Whimsical Clothed Figure Drawing: Use simple drawing supplies provided or bring your own to a clothed figure drawing afternoon! Our model will be wearing fun fits/costumes and using props to bring a sense of whimsy and play. Participants new to figure drawing will be guided on how to map out the figure using basic shapes and lines. Those with figure drawing experience can choose to be more independent if they wish! *Paper, clipboards, and basic drawing tools will be available for use (we do not have easels)
*Participants are encouraged to bring their own sketchbooks, drawing boards, easels, and drawing tools
80% of the money raised with these donation-based workshops go to UIDN, 10% goes to The Good Work Institute for donating the space, and 10% is used for art supplies and planning time.
